Sefer HaZohar. Shapira Press. Slavita, 1824

Complete set with extra wide margins.

Complete set of Zohar by the Tanna Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai, edited and amended based on the Constantinople edition and printed in the famed Shapira Press.

The set was printed on light green paper with title pages in red ink and features wide margins and beautiful bindings.

This edition of Sefer HaZohar was printed by Rabbi Avraham Shmuel Shapira, son of the illustrious Slavita Rav, Rabbi Moshe Shapira.

The sefer begins with an effusive approbation by the Ohev Yisrael of Apta, dated 9 Tammuz 5584 (1824), only nine months before his passing.

“The beauty of the press in the holy congregation of Slavita is known throughout the land, as it is carried under the watchful eye … of the honorable Rav and famous chassid Moreinu Harav Moshe Shapira, Av Beis Din of the holy congregation of Slavita, and may Hashem grant that he shall succeed in making his sefarim beautiful with all glory and splendor. And now, how wonderful and pleasant it is that he wishes to reprint the Sifrei HaZohar, and I hereby deliver a warning to people to avoid infringing on his property… And those who listen shall be blessed with goodness… Hakatan Avraham Yehoshua Heschel of Apta, Mezhibuz.”

Slavita, 1824. Vol. 1 (Bereishis): [4], 251, 17 leaves; Vol. 2 (Shmos): [1], 17-, 19-278 leaves; Vol. 3 (Vayikra-Bamidbar-Devarim): 115; [1], 117-309 leaves. Page size: 21.5 cm.

“Therefore, every man who fears Hashem should strive to purchase sefarim from old printings, the majority of which were printed by G-d-fearing men, and especially from the Slavita and Zhitomir Presses [which were owned] by the grandchildren of the Admor of Koritz, who were exalted and exceedingly pious printers.” (The Shomer Emunim in his Taharas Hakodesh Ch. 6)
