Selichos Translated in to Yiddish. Amsterdam, 1688
Antique wooden binding!
Selichos for the month of Elul and the High Holy Days translated to Yiddish by Rabbi Elyakim ben Rabbi Yaakov Shatz of Komarno.
This rendition was described as
“There was never one like it before!”
The Rabbinical approbations in this Selichos note that the translation is beneficial for women, and for the masses who are not fluent in lashon hakodesh.
This first edition of Rabbi Elyakim’s Yiddish rendition of Selichos was reprinted in several editions and also served as the basis for many future translations.
Complete copy in its original leather-encased wooden binding, remnants of metal clasps, and leather buckle.
This sefer boasts a magnificent title page crafted of seven miniature wooden engravings all depicting stories from Tanach. Two of the illustrations are of women (Miriam and Tzipporah).
Amsterdam, 1688. [1], 79 leaves. Page size: 20 cm. Last page features approbations by the distinguished Rabbanim of Amsterdam.
Good condition. Spine restored with new leather.
