Letter from the Chafetz Chaim  Radin, 1912

In the year 1912, the Chafetz Chaim saw that the Yeshivah building in Radin was quickly becoming too small to house the growing Yeshivah, forcing the Yeshivah’s talmidim to split into several locations. This caused difficulty in maintaining the Yeshivah sedarim, and necessitated the urgent construction of a larger facility.

The Chafetz Chaim immediately began fundraising and dispatching letters to acquaintances and donors around the world, and he successfully raised 15,000 rubles within a short period of time.

The building was completed in the summer of 1913. A gala Chanukas Habayis was celebrated with great joy and exhilaration, with the Chafetz Chaim’s opening address serving as the unforgettable focal point of the ceremony.

In his letter, he explains that there are over 200 young men learning day and night in the Yeshivah, many of whom are from poor families and are dependent upon the Yeshivah’s support.

“And therefore he who helps support us today shall be greatly rewarded…and Hashem will grant him life and peace and success in all his endeavors.”
