Handwritten & Autographed Responsum by Rabbi Menachem Sofer Hy”d (the Menachem Meishiv), 1915

Long handwritten letter of Torah novellae by Hagaon Harav Menachem Sofer, Av Beis Din of Marosvásárhely.

This letter was sent from Biharnagybajom a region of eastern Hungary, where he served as Av Beis Din between the years 1910-1918. This responsum contains discussions regarding dough that originally measured less than a k’zayis but rose in the course of leavening, or baking. In this letter, he resolves questions posed by Maharam Shick, Harav Yehonasan Eibschitz and the Beis Efraim regarding on this topic

Hagaon Harav Menachem Sofer Hy”d (1880-1943), Av Beis Din of Marosvásárhely, was the son of Harav Yisrael Mordechai Fishel Sofer and grandson of Harav Eliezer Zussman Sofer who authored the Yalkut Eliezer. He was a disciple of his venerable grandfather and also his uncle Harav Yosef Leib Sofer. He married the daughter of Harav Simcha Bunim Ehrenfeld, Av Beis Din of Mattersdorf.
