Handwritten & Autographed Letter by the Tzaddik of Graditz, Rabbi Eliyahu Gutmacher. 1869.

Known as the Tzaddik of Graditz, Harav Eliyahu Guttmacher (1796-1875) was one of the prime disciples of Rabbi Akiva Eiger. His reputation as a miracle worker drew thousands to his doorstep from far and wide in search of blessing, salvation, and success, until he was forced to publicize a request to the public to cease coming.

Harav Eliyahu Guttmacher was also renowned for his fervent love of the Yishuv in Eretz Yisrael, and he endeavored actively to support the courageous Jews who settled there. In this letter, he describes the great efforts he invested in order to send ‘kvitungen, - receipts’ to those who sent their donations to Eretz Yisroel through him.

He concludes with the words, “L’fum tza’ara agra, (one is rewarded in accordance to his efforts) everything must be done if it is for the will of the Creator Yisborach.”
