Bris Melach, by the Tosefos Yom Tov. Halachah sefer for women in Yiddish, Amsterdam 1718.
This sefer includes laws and instructions for preparing kosher poultry. Intended to educate women in the process of kashering (removing the blood by means of salting and rinsing). The sefer also includes some laws of Shabbos.
By Rabbi Yom Tov Lipman Heller, author of the famous commentary on the Mishnah, Tosefos Yom Tov.
Edited by Rabbi Moshe, the son of Yehuda and the son-in-law of HaGaon Rabbi Tzvi Hirsh — Av Beis Din of Lublin. with additional Halachos, compiled from the books of the Taz and the Shach, with a long introduction in which Rabbi Moshe describes how he and his family were miraculously rescued from a massive flood in his town in which many perished inspiring him to benefit the public by publishing this book.
As noted in the publisher's preface these laws were previously printed on a single page. The single pages quickly wore out or got lost “and there were no copies available for the Jewish women”. Hence, Rabbi Moshe decided to publish this work as a book. There are no known libraries in the world that have this sefer in its original form on one single page.
This print is the first edition of Bris Melach in book form.
Actual book is written in Yiddish. Hebrew and Yiddish Introduction.
Amsterdam, 1718. 30 leaves. 14cm. new leather binding, Owner's signatures on title page. Rare.
