The Admor Rashab’s Kiddush Cup

The Admor Harav Shalom Dov Ber Schneerson’s silver kiddush goblet which he used to recite Kiddush on Shabbos mornings.

After the passing of the Rashab, this goblet passed to his son the Admor Raayatz who bequeathed it as a bar mitzvah gift to his only grandson Shalom Dov Ber Gur-Arie in 1936. (The grandson Shalom Ber was named after his great-grandfather, the Rashab, and was thus gifted this valuable item.)

Upon delivering this gift to his grandson, the Raayatz related that his father, the Rashab, had purchased the goblet in Kiev and recited Kiddush upon it every Shabbat morning. (Handwritten, signed affirmation of Shalom Dov Ber Gur-Arie attached.)

The Admor Rashab (1861-1920) was the fifth Rebbe in the dynasty of Chabad-Lubavitch. He was the son of the Maharash, the grand son of  Tzemach Tzedek, and the great grand son of the Mitteler Rebbe, (who was the son of the Baal HaTanya). The Rashab founded Yeshivas Tomchei Temimim and Toras Emes and advocated tirelessly on behalf of Russian Jewry who suffered terribly during his era from frequent persecutions and pogroms. He likewise authored hundreds of Chassidic essays that were compiled into his monumental 29-volume series.

The Rashab’s wife Rebbetzin Shterna Sarah was the daughter of the Admor Harav Yosef Yitzchak of Averitch, son of the Tzemach Tzedek. In 1940, the Rebbetzin traveled with her only son the "Raayatz" to America, where she passed away two years later . Her great-grandson Shalom Ber, was 19 years old at the time, .

Stamped cylindrical silver goblet with rounded upper lip and engravings of leaves and houses.

A Spark of Man’s Soul Is Found in His Belongings
Throughout the ages, great Chassidic masters yearned to inherit the personal belongings and vessels of prior tzaddikim. The source of this is attributed to the Baal Shem Tov, as recorded in his grandson’s sefer Degel Machaneh Efraim: “I heard from my grandfather… that all that a man possesses…even his vessels…are all sparks that draw from the root of his soul.”
