Original Persian Tabriz Hand-Knotted Carpet, Mahi Design, Fine Wool with Silk Highlights - A classic Persian carpet originating from Tabriz, northwestern Iran, one of Persia’s oldest and most celebrated carpet-weaving centers. The carpet features the traditional Mahi design, also known as the Herati pattern, composed of a densely woven field of minute fish-like floral motifs, a serrated central medallion and corresponding corner ornaments. Its palette combines dark green, pink, burgundy, cream and pale blue tones. Finely and densely hand-knotted, probably in the range of 50–60 Raj. The pile is made of fine wool with silk highlights used to accentuate the outlines and decorative details. The foundation is most likely cotton. The carpet is relatively heavy for its size, consistent with its dense construction and substantial cotton foundation. Iran, late 20th. Dimensions: 197 × 203 cm. Overall good condition. Stains and color marks appear on the reverse only and are not visible from the front. Leather protectors are sewn to the reverse corners. Please examine the photographs for a complete assessment of condition. Local pickup from Givat Shmuel only. Shipping is not available
