The United Nations created an 'Emergency Force' to supervise the evacuation of all foreign troops from the Sinai and maintain stability in the area. They were stationed on Egyptian land. They served from 15 November 1956 until Egypt ordered them removed in May 1967, which actually helped lead to the 6 Day War. Eleven nations, including Canada, sent troops, numbering as many as 6,000.
The UNEF was re-instated after the Yom Kippur War, from 1973-79, when this UN stationery envelope was sent to Canada.
