England Jewry - 96 Condolence letters. Aharon Dagot President of the first chamber of Bnei Brith in England, founder of "Beit Hillel" at the University of Cambridge. 1944
Dozens of condolence letters, most of them from Jewish graduates of the University of Cambridge. The letters were not read. Very good condition.
Aharon (Harry) Dagut (Dagutski) 1887-1944). Authority on Assyrian philology. Lectured in Bible, Talmud, and Midrash at *Jews' College. He was the first British rabbi to become a barrister (Lincoln's Inn, 1920). He became President of the B'nai B'rith First Lodge of England, founder of Hillel House Cambridge, was Vice- President of the Federation of Jewish Relief Organizations, translated (1925) parts of the Babylonian Talmud, and wrote other works on Babylonian Jewry. He attended several Zionist congresses. His father was the Russian born Rabbi Mendel B Dagutski.
