WWII GERMAN SOLDIER OIL PORTRAIT PAINTING
Large oil portrait of a German Major dated Munich, 1943, by Karl Pertgen (1881-1953), oil on canvas, nailed to a stretcher, 25 x 18.25 inches. The painting portrays a Major decorated with the Iron Cross 1st and 2nd Class with 1914 and 1939 clasps, Anschluss ribbon, a black wound badge, a medal bar with a WWI Iron Cross 2nd Class, Bavarian Military Merit Order with Swords 4th Class, Bavarian Military Merit Cross with Swords 2nd Class, and a Hindenburg Cross. Very good.
