AUSTRIAN HUNTING ASSOCIATION WALL PLATE
Saint Hubertus, patron saint of hunters, large brass plate to be displayed hanging on a wall, probably a pre-WWII display piece originating from Austria. A small swastika was later added to the center of the skull. Once the German Hunting Society was created in 1934 it continued the use of the antler symbol by replacing the cross with the swastika and merged Austria into the organization. The engraved brass plate is 10 inches in diameter and reads at top 'This is the hunter's shield of honor that he protects and cares for his game.'
