Born in 1757, José Daniel Rodrigues da Costa was born in Leiria and came to Lisbon at an early age. Unable to obtain higher academic degrees due to lack of financial capacity, he was a clerk in Portalegre, assistant to the ordinances in Alenquer and promoted to Major in the National Legion of Paço da Rainha. According to Inocêncio, Rodrigues da Costa was very given to good humor and everyone applauded "his jokes and naturally funny and satirical sayings". He died in 1832, shortly after receiving an annual pension from D. Miguel, of whom he was a supporter. He left a vast work, this being one of the most esteemed. The first edition of these pamphlets was printed in 1803, which is very rare, as evidenced by its non-existence in the BN catalog. Esteemed and Rare.
