OZET (ОЗЕТ / געזערד): Established in 1925 with the backing of the Soviet authorities, with the aim of transforming the Jewish masses from ”petty bourgeois” and merchants into ”productive workers” and farmers. During the 1920s and 1930s, the organization worked to encourage Jews to move to agricultural settlements (including the Birobidzhan project), and issued official lottery tickets (OZET Lottery) to raise funds for its activities. The organization was dissolved in 1938 during Stalin's Great Purge, and its leaders were executed.
