War Crime Trial Chares Guilty - The Final Official Verdict of the War Criminals in the Nuremberg Trials - Details of the Charges and Sentences for Each of the Defendants. October 1, 1946. Typewritten Document Issued upon the Announcement of the Sentences of the Greatest Criminals in Human History, for Headquarters 344th Bombardment Group (M) AAF.
This rare typewritten document provides a detailed list of the names of the 22 Nazi defendants, the charges for which each was convicted, and their respective sentences. For example, Hermann Göring is listed as having been convicted on all four counts—Conspiracy, Crimes Against Peace, War Crimes, and Crimes Against Humanity—and sentenced to death by hanging (although he later committed suicide in his prison cell). Similarly, Joachim von Ribbentrop was convicted of the same crimes and received a death sentence by hanging, as did Wilhelm Keitel, who was convicted of Crimes Against Peace, War Crimes, and Crimes Against Humanity. Julius Streicher was also convicted on three counts and sentenced to death by hanging. Albert Speer, Hitler’s personal architect and the man responsible for armaments in the German Wehrmacht, was convicted for his role in the exploitation of forced laborers and sentenced to twenty years in prison. The verdicts for the other defendants are also detailed.
This rare typewritten document was produced specifically for the 344th Bombardment Group, a British bomber unit that participated in World War II, attacking airfields, missile sites, marshalling yards, submarine pens, coastal defenses, and other Axis targets in France, Belgium, and the Netherlands. Starting in May, the unit assisted in preparations for the Normandy Invasion by targeting key bridges in France. The group bombed bridges, shipping, and railways to prevent the Nazi enemy from retreating.
