Antisemitic propaganda poster published by the German National People's Party, Berlin, 1919

"The Development of the Socialists" - an antisemitic propaganda poster published by the German National People's Party (Deutschnationale Volkspartei, DNVP), Berlin, 1919.

The poster depicts the "climbing the ladder" of German socialists from a simple hat to a top hat, then from a simple handkerchief to a diamond handkerchief, and from swimwear to ministerial garb, finally the figure composed of the new attire of the socialist is the inflated fat Jew with the top hat, diamond necklace and ministerial garb and the antisemitic message: "This is what a ruler looks like!" and the desired response - "The voter is stunned, and votes Deutschnational! - German citizen!. The poster was distributed as part of the antisemitic propaganda of the German National People's Party ahead of the 1919 elections.

The German National People's Party (German: Deutschnationale Volkspartei, DNVP) was a national-conservative and monarchist political party in Germany during the Weimar Republic era. Before the rise of the Nazi Party, it was the largest nationalist party in Germany. It was an alliance of conservative, nationalist, monarchist, and antisemitic forces supported by the Pan-German League. It held anti-communist, anti-Catholic, and antisemitic views. The party was founded in late 1918 after the defeat of Germany in World War I and the German Revolution of 1918-1919 that overthrew the German Empire and the monarchy. The party strongly rejected the republican Weimar Constitution of 1919 and the Treaty of Versailles, which was seen as a national disgrace, signed by traitors. The party instead aimed at restoring the monarchy, annulling the dictated peace agreement and reacquiring all lost territories and colonies. And in fact, it paved the political ground in Germany for the coming of the Nazi Party.
