  • LE JUIF ERRANT - Engraving of the Wandering Jew based on a drawing by GRANDVILLE - The Jew passes by a Christian cemetery and those present, including the children, look at him in amazement. Published by J. Claye Paris, c. 1850. Size: 25x17 cm.
  • Issue of the French Le pelerin dated December 14, 1882. (In this legend the Wandering Jew appears under the name "Isaac").
  • HORRIBLE ASSASSINAT DU PRESIDENT DE LA REPUBLIQUE SADI CARNOT AIR DU JUIF ERRANT [The Horrible Assassination of the President of the Republic Sadi Carnot caused by the Wandering Jew]. Antisemitic poster blaming the murder of Marie François Sadi Carnot, President of the French Republic, on the 'Wandering Jew'. France late 19th century. Marie François - Sadi Carnot [1837-1894] was President of France during the Third Republic who was assassinated during his tenure. After serving in various public positions, he was elected President of France in 1887. During his presidency, France faced severe crises that threatened to abolish the parliamentary system and replace it with an authoritarian regime, the "Panama scandal" affair in 1892, in which it was revealed that the Panama Canal Company paid French statesmen, and more. In the French press, the Jews were blamed for the crisis when the part of the Jews - financiers with interests - was highlighted. At the height of these crises in June 1894, after President Carnot finished a speech at an exhibition in Lyon, he was stabbed by an Italian anarchist named Sante Caserio and died of his wounds a few hours later. This poster was published after his assassination. This is actually a lamentation describing in detail the planning of the assassination and its execution [with the name of the assassin 'Caserio Gibney' appearing several times and emphasized in one of the verses], as well as the void he left behind and the heavy mourning for the death of the president of the republic. The writer blames the grave outcome for the French Republic on the 'Wandering Jew' without detailing his direct part in the murder. Size: 40x28 cm. Stains. Fold marks. Good condition.
