'The Art of Lying' - cartoon booklet showing the lies of Hitler and Goebbels - Allied publication [1944]

L'ART DE MENTIR L'art de mentir. Petit manuel à l'usage de tous ceux qui s'exercent à l'art délicat du mensonge, illustré de quelques exemples choisis, dûs à la plume des "Maîtres du Monde" - THE ART OF LYING - A small manual for the use of all those who practice the delicate art of lying, illustrated with several selected examples from the writings of the "Masters of the World" Adolf Hitler and Joseph Goebbels. Published by the 'Anglo-American Information and Publicity Office'. French. Rare anti-Nazi publication by the Allies [1944].

A booklet of color caricatures accompanied by quotes from declarations made by Hitler and Goebbels on various occasions, regarding their military intentions towards European countries, exposing their lies one by one. The quote appears in black letters, and the exposure of the lie in red letters. Alongside the lies are color caricatures mocking Hitler. For example, the booklet opens with a quote from Hitler's lie in May 1935: "It is in no way part of Germany's intentions to interfere in Austria's internal affairs, to annex it or to carry out an Anschluss" - countered by the well-known fact that in March 1938 Hitler invaded Austria. On another page appears a quote from Hitler: "Germany has signed a non-aggression pact with Poland which is more than a valuable contribution to European peace and it will honor its articles without any ulterior motive", countered by Germany's blatant breach in invading Poland. There is a quote from German radio on April 27, 1942 stating: "In all the countries where German soldiers fought, they respected the universality of European culture and protected artistic treasures". Next to this lying quote appears a caricature of German soldiers looting artworks as they hang torn on the long rifle barrels of the German SS, and so on. The booklet's spine is designed in the shape of swastikas, disguised as a publication issued by the Nazis themselves in order to reach German hands.

35 p. 16 cm. Very good condition.
