An official form from the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Warsaw revoking the Polish citizenship of the Jew Jakob Goldberg and his wife. Warsaw, July 4, 1938. Polish.

"In accordance with Section 1 (b) of the Act of March 31, 1938 / Law Book No. 22, clause 191 / and at the request of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Internal Affairs revokes the Polish citizenship of Mr. Jakob Goldberg, born on August 17, 1910 in Stary Czortków, Czortków district, son of Joseph and Sarah née Friedler. In accordance with Section 3 of the aforementioned Act, the loss of Polish citizenship also applies to his wife... born on June 30, 1911...This decision, in accordance with Section 2 of the said Act, does not require justification and is final in the administrative procedure".

The form is signed by W. Żybowski "Head of Department".

In March 1938, Nazi Germany annexed Austria (the Anschluss). The Polish government feared that Austrian Jews with Polish citizenship would flee to Poland from the annexed Austria. The Polish legislature rushed to pass legislation allowing revocation of Polish citizenship for Poles who had resided outside Poland for five years. Under this law, the citizenship of Jakob Goldberg and his wife was revoked.
