Final Report by Sir Nevile Henderson on the Circumstances Leading to the Severance of Diplomatic Relations between Britain and Nazi Germany Immediately before the Outbreak of World War II - Final Report by the Right Honourable Sir Nevile Henderson, G.C.M.G on the circumstances leading to the termination of his mission to Berlin September 20th, 1939 - the final report of Sir Nevile Henderson concerning his mission to Berlin on September 20, 1939, and the termination of diplomatic relations between Britain and Nazi Germany on the eve of the outbreak of World War II. Published by His Majesty's Stationery Office - first edition. A detailed report surveying the circumstances that led Germany to become a totalitarian state under Hitler's sole rule. It also provides a detailed explanation of how the Nazi propaganda machine operated at its height, and of Goebbels's significant role in inciting the masses to antisemitism and complete submission to the Führer's command. Henderson served as British Ambassador to Nazi Germany from 1937 until the outbreak of World War II. Here he submitted his ”Final Report”, written on September 20, 1939, only weeks after Germany's invasion of Poland and Britain's declaration of war. Among other things, Henderson provides a detailed account of the precise sequence of diplomatic events, the dramatic conversations he held in Berlin with Adolf Hitler and Foreign Minister Joachim von Ribbentrop, and the collapse of negotiations that led to the severance of relations and the outbreak of war. Henderson was considered one of the central figures in implementing Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain's policy of appeasement toward Germany. The report was presented to Parliament and the British public in order to demonstrate that the British government had done everything in its power to prevent military conflict, and that Nazi aggression was responsible for bringing the diplomatic mission to an end and leading to war. 27 pages.
