A rare bulletin intended for Romanian immigrants in Israel. The various issues feature reports, articles, and essays on a wide range of topics relating to Romania’s cultural, political, and economic achievements. Included: numerous articles on subjects such as the achievements of the Romanian economy; The Romanian People Goes to the Polls; Foreign Citizens Speak About Romania; May Day in the People’s Republic of Romania; Romania’s Independence Day and the Victory over German Fascism; The Plastic Arts Exhibition; The Museum of Folk Art of the P.R.R.; The Third Congress of the Romanian Workers' Party; The First Opera Performed in the Romanian Language; 500 Years of Bucharest; 15 Years Since the Liberation of Romania from Fascism; The Jewish Theater in Bucharest; and more.
Information Bulletin of the People’s Republic of Romania was a propaganda and informational tool aimed at the Romanian immigrant community in Israel and the broader public, intended to present the “achievements” of the communist regime in Romania in a positive light. The photographs featured on the covers of the issues were in fact an attempt by the Romanian regime to convey an image of “normalcy” and social prosperity. During those years (the late 1950s), relations between Israel and Romania were highly complex. On the one hand, Romania was part of the Eastern Bloc hostile to the West, but on the other hand, it maintained a relatively open channel with Israel (albeit under strict limitations) and permitted waves of Jewish immigration.
Rare. The National Library holds several issues from different years of this journal. Some of the issues in this collection are not held by the National Library.
