Description:

Harsh press photos taken in the death camps at the end of the war
Seven harsh press photos taken in the liberated death camps at the end of the war by press photographers who visited there.
Some are described on the reverse, on the original paper slips of the photo agencies.

Photographs:

  • A survivor from the Bergen-Belsen camp who was severely beaten in the face – photographed on April 29, 1945.
  • Human skeletons in the crematorium at the Majdanek camp – photographed on September 10, 1944.
  • Allied soldiers near the memorial sign at the entrance to the Bergen-Belsen camp - photographed on October 7, 1945. 
  • Maria Mandel, “The Beast of Auschwitz”, alongside Nazi war criminal Irma Grese, who served as an SS-Aufseherin (female guard) in the Ravensbrück, Bergen-Belsen, and Auschwitz camps – photographed on April 22, 1945, just months before her execution by hanging during the Belsen Trials.
  • Pile of victims’ corpses - L.A.P.I photo agency.
  • Three photos by the S.C.A. photo agency: victims’ corpses, an emaciated survivor in one of the death camps, and a pile of victims’ clothing in one of the death camps.
