Two sisters reunited after the horrors. The reverse of the photograph is captioned by the photo agency: “Happy reunion - Germany, March 13, 1945: Two Polish girls, formerly employed as forced laborers for the Nazis, are joyfully reunited and embrace in a displaced persons shelter behind Allied lines. Civilian men and women captured by the German army - including Poles, Russians, Yugoslavs, French, and Dutch – were gathered by Allied forces from captured cities and moved to safe areas toward the end of the war.”
