Description:
Rasputin – Ein Werkzeug der Juden (Rasputin – A Tool in the Hands of the Jews) – an antisemitic propaganda book by Dr. Rudolf Kummer, published by Der Stürmer, the notorious publishing house of Julius Streicher. The book promotes the false claim of a global Jewish conspiracy, using the mysterious figure of Russian mystic Grigori Rasputin, who was closely associated with the Russian royal court, as alleged evidence of Jewish influence and manipulation. Published in Nuremberg, 1939 – first edition. Extremely rare.
"We are living in a time of global change. It has finally led us to uncover the secret activities through which the Jewish people have influenced world events until now, and will continue to do so until an awakened world finally puts an end to them. Many books have already been written about the actions of the Russian peasant Rasputin at the court of the last Tsar. They were written by people who either did not know the truth or were not allowed to speak it for fear of Jewish revenge. Dr. Rudolf Kummer’s book seeks to prove - through irrefutable documents, that the Russian peasant Rasputin was a front man for the destroyer of the world: Jewry. Through Rasputin, used as a political tool, the Jewish people brought about this tragic historical development, the ultimate cause of which has remained a mystery until now. Our time has begun to break the power that turned into global domination. The book ‘Rasputin - A Tool in the Hands of the Jews’ aims to ensure that knowledge of Judaism’s harmful influence will grow and strengthen, and never be lost. Nuremberg, city of the Nazi Party rallies, November 1939" (from the book’s introduction).
An antisemitic publication whose purpose is to present the historical figure of the mystic Grigori Rasputin within an antisemitic narrative framework — claiming that Rasputin was allegedly under direct Jewish influence in order to serve Jewish objectives, and that through his actions he in fact brought about the realization of a supposed Jewish plan. In a pseudo-scholarly, narrative tone, the author attempts to convey to readers the message that: “Rasputin’s Jewish advisers and supporters had already secured their wealth abroad when the plundering of the Russian people by world Jewry began, ” allegedly through his connections with the royal court. The author, Dr. Rudolf Kummer, was not a historian in the scholarly sense, but rather a propagandist who adopted a narrative designed to justify the idea of an “international Jewish conspiracy, ” allegedly involving covert control over Russian politics in the final years of Tsarism. The book exemplifies the editorial line of Der Stürmer, which produced pamphlets and short books intended to lend a semblance of intellectual legitimacy to antisemitic propaganda: taking historical events, famous figures, or political affairs and weaving them into conspiratorial constructions of supposed “Jewish control” behind the scenes. In Rasputin’s case, the Nazis also exploited the fact that the Tsarist period and its collapse led to the Bolshevik Revolution, thereby creating an artificial linkage between “Rasputinism, ” “the Jews, ” and “Bolshevism” - three central enemy figures in Nazi discourse. The cover, stamped with a broken cross within a Star of David, was intended to convey the message that, through hidden means, Judaism allegedly achieved its goals by using covert Christian proxies.
Grigori Rasputin [1869–1916] was a highly unusual figure from the final years of Tsarist Russia. Born in Siberia in 1869, he rose during the first two decades of the 20th century to become a charismatic persona, combining mysticism, a cult of personality, and political influence. He was not a monk in the official ecclesiastical sense, but rather a mystic with a reputation as a “holy man” possessing healing powers. Thanks to the belief that he could help the ailing heir to the throne, Alexei (who suffered from hemophilia), Rasputin gained extraordinary access to the inner circle of the imperial family, especially earning the trust of Alexandra. His proximity to the Romanovs during a time of political crisis, World War I, corruption, and failed reforms sparked intense suspicion and revulsion among military, political, and aristocratic elites, who blamed him for harmful influence over decision-making and the disintegration of Tsarist authority. In December 1916, Rasputin was assassinated by a group of nobles who saw him as a symbol of the regime's degeneration. From a historical perspective, Rasputin is viewed not as the cause of Tsarism’s fall, but as a symptom of a regime collapsing from within.
Due to the mystery surrounding his character and the fact that much of his activity took place behind closed doors, he was an ideal figure for Nazi propagandists to appropriate, portraying him as a secret agent of Jewish imperial aims. For the propagandists of Der Stürmer, it was critical to publish this book precisely at this moment, on the eve of World War II - to prepare the ideological ground for their narrative: Jews as a global destructive force,
Bolshevism as their extension, and Hitler as the one tasked with “cleansing the world” of their influence.
