Item Overview

Description:

Material for the Madrich - a collection of lectures held at the Bnei Akiva seminar in Budapest in the winter of 1945

Chomer LáMádricḥ – Material for the Madrich* – a rare Jewish publication issued in Hungary by Torá vaÁvoda Könyvtár (“Torah and Avodah Library”). A collection of lectures from a seminar organized by the Hungarian Bnei Akiva as part of the “Madrich” seminar held in Budapest in the winter of 1945. In Hungarian. Extremely rare.

The lectures delivered at this seminar organized by Bnei Akiva were intended for a limited number of members who attended it. Therefore, the publishing house decided to publish the seminar content as a study guide for further learning, also for those who were not present. At the beginning of the book appears a portrait of Rabbi Abraham Isaac Kook, described as “a pioneering rabbi in addressing the challenges of the religious labor movement.” Among the speakers at the seminar were Rabbi Amram Blum, who was in Hungary at the time, A. Yarkoni, Dr. Béla Dansbein, M. Uziel, and others. The lectures addressed various topics that were at the forefront of Hungarian Jewry’s concerns following the horrors of the Holocaust, such as HaPoel HaMizrachi and its role, the structure of the Bnei Akiva movement, the history of Zionist settlement, the economic prospects of the Land of Israel, education in the Mizrachi movement, Zionist policy, and more. The book is accompanied by photographic plates depicting: the Yemenite Children's Home, members of the “Hungarian Kibbutz” at work, an immigrant ship to the Land of Israel, pioneers and agricultural workers in Eretz Israel, the Hebrew University Library, and more.

Extremely rare. Only one copy is listed in the global WorldCat library catalog at Harvard University Library, USA.

Hardcover with the original dust jacket, all complete. Good condition.
