Rare antisemitic booklet – Nazi propaganda warning against global Jewish imperialism – “The only means by which the Jewish rulers can preserve and solidify their rule.” Berlin, 1936

Das bringt die Rote Armee – “This is what the Red Army brings” – an extreme antisemitic publication accusing the Jews of instigating the Spanish Civil War as a launching point for an attempted takeover of European countries. A virulent antisemitic publication in Nazi Germany, issued on behalf of the Anti-Komintern organization, at the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War. The booklet blames the Jews for inciting the Bolshevik forces in Spain, portraying the conflict as a model for a broader plan to seize control over all of Europe. Throughout the booklet, the author draws heavily on the conspiracy theory of global Jewish domination, a central theme of Nazi propaganda in the 1930s. The text states: “It is no coincidence that Béla Kun, who caused the murder of countless hostages during his rule in Budapest, is now in Spain. It is no coincidence that the rulers of Bolshevism are of the Jewish race those responsible for the Munich hostage victims of 1919, who were shot and mutilated by orders of Leviné, Levine-Nissen, and Axelrod (all Jews). There are documents detailing the murder of hostages in the Baltic states, where hundreds were killed in 1919, not to mention the hostage executions in the Far East, for which precise data is still lacking to this day...”. 

The booklet features a large photograph of Béla Kun with an antisemitic caption: “Béla Kun (Aaron Cohen) in Spain. The Jewish Chekist was responsible for the murder of twenty hostages in Budapest in 1919. In July 1922, he ordered the massacre of 70,000 people by machine gun in the Crimean Peninsula, including 272 stretcher-bound patients.” Another page shows a photograph of armed women with the caption:

“Armed Bolshevik women are among the tools of mass Jewish slaughterhouses.” Accompanying images of victims of the violence in Spain, a Jewish man, Yitzhak Rubin, is accused of being “the agent” responsible for the murder of 300 individuals imprisoned in Spanish jails. The booklet claims that the number of victims of communist–Jewish terror in Spain has risen to 55,000, and that these uprisings are part of a larger aim to establish “World Jewish Rule”: “This is no longer a civil war; it is the unleashing of sadistic murderous urges, the likes of which have only appeared once before in human history. The methods of Soviet Russia are now being applied in Western Europe; through the blood of hostages and Cheka terror, global Jewish imperialism is fighting for control of Spain. Moscow’s fist grips the Iberian Peninsula; from there, the West is to be plunged into chaos, upon which the power of the Jewish intellectual elite in Moscow, the rule of World Jewry, is to be built.”

In the chapter titled “Global Jewish Imperialism”, the publication opens with a photograph captioned: “Five Communist Generals (from left to right): Tukhachevsky, the Jew Gamarnik, Voroshilov, Budyonny, and the Jew Yagoda. The two Jews hold the most important positions: Gamarnik is the political leader of the army, Yagoda is head of the GPU. A distribution of power that speaks for itself.” The booklet accuses the Jews of orchestrating the so-called Jewish National Revolution in Russia as a launching point for a global takeover: “Global imperialism, hiding behind the name of world revolution, is not the goal of the Russian people, but the only means by which the Jewish rulers can preserve and solidify their control over Soviet Russia.” Also featured is a photo showing Jewish figures beside Stalin, labeled “Stalin’s Clique, ” with Jewish names listed in order to imply Jewish dominance over the Soviet leadership. 

The text goes on to claim that Germany is “next in line” for this alleged Jewish takeover: “Jewish imperialism must strike if it wants to survive... This is abundantly clear, and the events in Spain have shown how the Jewish rulers in Moscow are using their power to support a revolution ignited in one of the Western nations. The Soviet state is preparing for war. It must do so according to the law by which it was founded—to preserve its system.” The booklet continues with falsified and distorted quotations from the writings of Jewish individuals, presented as supposed evidence of a Jewish plan to dominate the world. 

Another page presents a photograph of murdered civilians with the caption:

“Seven German civilians were shot to death by a Bolshevik mob in Santander, Gijón, and Barcelona. Among them was a seven-year-old girl. The atrocities were premeditated. The wrath of the Marxists was directed at them because, as Germans, they belonged to the nation that served as a bulwark against Moscow and international Jewry!” The publication then describes the internal structure of the Red Army, alleging that it employed brutal methods against civilians. Alongside these descriptions, a photograph of Boris Gamarnik appears with the caption: “This man determines the military classification of Red Army soldiers; this is Jan Borisovich Gamarnik, head of the political leadership of the Red Army. He is a Jew.” The section expands at length on what it presents as the “system” by which workers in the Soviet Union are exploited as the foundation for what it calls “Soviet–Jewish imperialism.” Included are photographs of peasants dying of starvation, labeled as victims of Jewish–Bolshevik exploitation, and the text claims: “The peasants suffer the most from the exploitation of the Jewish–Bolshevik caste; they are rendered defenseless and landless in order to eliminate any possibility of rebellion. The famine in Russia is not the result of failed harvests, but a deliberately and systematically planned event.” 

The concluding section of the booklet sets out the equation that Nazi propaganda sought to establish – that the Jews are the driving force behind global domination, and only Nazi Germany has the power to halt this trend: "The attack on the world is the goal of the global Jewish clique that rules Soviet Russia. The first targets of this attack are those countries in which the propagandists of the Comintern, agents of the GPU, and instructors of the Red Army have managed to gain a foothold during peacetime, in order to prepare the ground for the Bolshevization of the state... The central force of resistance against this system of exploitation and imperialism is Nazi Germany. Only a country whose army is truly a people’s army, only a state that spares no effort to defend itself against the red assault and to develop its defensive weapons in time, will possess the strength to withstand the Bolshevik onslaught. With such defense, a new era for suffering Europe may begin, an era in which the nations of our continent, through the rediscovery of their national strength, can ensure world peace."

Throughout the 1930s, Nazi propaganda systematically promoted the claim that Jews were behind radical revolutions around the world, primarily in Russia and Spain, as part of a global conspiracy to dominate all of humanity. This claim became a cornerstone of the Nazi regime’s antisemitic ideology and was central to the conspiracy theory of “Jewish Bolshevism.” The Nazis portrayed the Bolshevik Revolution in Russia (1917) as proof that Jews were responsible for overthrowing the established order. They emphasized the Jewish origin of prominent figures such as Trotsky (Leon Bronstein) and drew a direct line between Judaism and Communism, popularizing propagandistic terms like “Judeo-Bolshevism” (Judeo-Bolschewismus). Nazi books, posters, and newspapers repeatedly claimed that the revolution was not intended to create equality, but rather to enslave the “superior” races and destroy traditional Europe. Systematically, this propaganda combined fear of social chaos (as associated with revolutions) with antisemitic racism, in order to justify both the persecution of Jews within Nazi Germany and the regime’s aggressive foreign policy toward the Soviet Union. This claim formed part of the ideological foundation for the war against Communism and ultimately, for genocide. 

On the cover appears an illustration of a worker hanged by his neck on a red cross, the abstract shape of which incorporates the hammer and sickle – symbol of communism.
