Item Overview

Description:

The Course of Our Lives… Flowers Along the Path of Life" – A Nazi publication that rewrites the history of the Third Reich as a natural and glorious part of the German historical narrative. Germany, 1941

"Unser Lebenslauf mit Gott – Blumen am Lebenswege" – "The Course of Our Lives with Gd – Flowers Along the Path of Life." Published by “Der Rufer” Evangelischer Verlag (a Protestant publishing house from Gütersloh, Germany), 1941. A German historical calendar presenting a narrative in which the history of the Nazi Party and Adolf Hitler is seamlessly integrated into the broader arc of German national history. Through propagandistic articles, numerous photographs, and carefully constructed imagery, the publication seeks to blur the line between Germany as an ancient cultural nation and Nazi Germany, portraying the rise of National Socialism as a natural, historical, and legitimate development. The publication offers ideological legitimization of Nazism, framing Hitler’s leadership as the organic continuation of German history, rather than a rupture or deviation from it. Extremely rare.

German chronological calendar organized by the months of the year, combining milestones in the history of the Nazi Party. Each month features a chronological listing that combines milestones from ancient German history, such as “The birth of Johann Gottlieb Fichte” (1762), with milestones from the Third Reich, such as “Nazi Party election victory 1933,” “Birth of Hermann Göring, ” “Adolf Hitler appointed Reich Chancellor, ” “Start of Hitler’s trial” (1924), “Annexation of Austria into the German Reich, ” “Day of Potsdam, ” “Rudolf Hess appointed Deputy Führer” (1933), and the like.

Further on appear articles that combine a longing for nature with a rewriting of German history, presenting the rise of the Nazi Party and World War II from a Nazi perspective that glorifies Adolf Hitler and the German army, and portrays Germany’s economic prosperity, with the tone being: “Germany wanted peace, but war was forced upon her, ” the Führer did everything in his power to establish good relations with Poland but all his proposals were rejected by the Poles, German truth defeated British lies, the number of German workers rose to unprecedented levels in German history, and so on. Also statements such as: “Adolf Hitler’s work is invincible.”

Such publications served as an educational and sophisticated tool in shaping the consciousness of the young generation in Nazi Germany. Through pastoral imagery, inspiring stories, and an aesthetic of innocent childhood, they sought to instill in youth an ideal image of Germany as a noble, moral, peace‑seeking nation that protects its values. The state was presented as a nation acting out of a sense of historical mission, one committed to preserving the principles of nature, communal harmony, inner freedom, and social justice. In this framework, German aggression was presented not as brutal conquest, but as defensive war — a necessary action forced upon the nation in order to ensure its existence and its loyalty to these values.

Extremely rare. Does not appear in the WorldCat global library catalogue.
