"In this year, 1933, the new Germany has emerged. From this year onward, the final transformation has begun... In these days, the many people of the German territories become one nation, for the first time in our thousands of years of history... What an incredible climax—the Victory Day in Nuremberg—when Adolf Hitler's loyal followers march in a mighty demonstration of their will to create a new Germany." (From the introduction).
A photo album documenting the events of the 1933 Nazi Party Rally in Nuremberg, known as the "Victory Rally, " (Reichsparteitag des Sieges) the first such event following the Nazi rise to power in Germany. The photographs narrate the major events, speeches by Hitler and Nazi Party leaders, and mass ceremonies held throughout the rally.
The 1933 Nuremberg Rally was a pivotal moment in solidifying Nazi control over the German populace. The event was designed to showcase the party’s power and unify the German people under Nazi rule. This book served as a propaganda tool to spread Nazi ideology and glorify the new leadership. Many of the photographs were taken from within the crowd, giving the reader the sensation of standing amid the flag-waving masses. The images reflect the euphoria surrounding the Nazi regime’s early days, with descriptions reinforcing the atmosphere. For example, a photograph showing a sea of Germans giving the Nazi salute is captioned: "Hands were raised in salute, a lightning symbol of unanimous enthusiasm as the flag bearers marched… The entire nation stands here as one, declaring that a new Germany has awakened." Another caption describes a parade through the medieval streets of Nuremberg:
"Through the narrow streets lined with historic buildings, the Brown Battalions marched into the festival city to the cheers of dense crowds."
Among the key photographs are: Mass crowds gathered in the Street of Columns to hear Hitler’s speech ("The men follow their leader with unwavering loyalty."). Hermann Göring signing autographs for the masses. The Hitler Youth parading under the leadership of Baldur von Schirach. Rudolf Hess delivering the opening speech, with Hitler, Goebbels, and other Nazi leaders seated beside him. Hitler's keynote address at the rally. The grand march of the masses before Hitler’s vehicle, and more.
Second Part – Full Transcripts of the Rally Speeches The latter part of the book contains full transcripts of major speeches delivered at the rally, including: Opening speech by Rudolf Hess. Hitler’s full speech. Alfred Rosenberg’s speech – "On the Racial Character of German Foreign Policy." Hitler’s address to the Hitler Youth. And others. This was the first of the annual Nazi Party Rallies, which in subsequent years became a central spectacle of Nazi Germany’s political and ideological propaganda machine.
111, [1] pages. 25 cm. Attached to the book is a printed publisher's notice stating: "Nuremberg 1933 – Due to historical events, some images have become outdated and have been removed from this book following suggestions made to us. These are pages 7, 25, and 42." Indeed, these pages are missing, (Some believe that they contained images of Nazi officials who were later purged or assassinated during the "Night of the Long Knives" in an effort to erase their memory from the party’s history). Very good condition.
