'Struwwelhitler' - a parody mocking Hitler and the top Nazi government officials. London, early 1940s
Struwwelhitler, a Nazi Story Book by Doktor Schrecklichkeit - "Hitler the Shockheaded" Nazi story by Robert and Philip Spence. Published by The Daily Sketch and Sunday Graphic, London, [c. 1941]. A comic book mocking Adolf Hitler and senior Nazi party members. English.
A comic book based on the German children's book Struwwelpeter [Hebrew: "יהושע הפרוע"]. The comic book is written and colored in the form of a comic, mocking Hitler and senior Nazi party officials including Rudolf Hess, Hermann Göring and Joseph Goebbels, as well as Mussolini and Stalin. Colorful illustrations replace Hitler's figure with that of "Shockheaded Peter". The rhyming plot presents Hitler whose murderous ambitions know no bounds, sending even unruly animals to concentration camps and senselessly killing birds, a man whose foolishness causes him defeat after defeat. It features a story about Hitler doll and the Aryan girl, sick Hitler, the story of "Hermann the pilot" - Göring appears with the derogatory nickname 'Fat Hermann', trying to get rid of his fat to make 'room' for weapons, and a segment mocking the foolish Göring on aviation matters (Göring was commander of the Luftwaffe - the German Air Force), a story mocking Goebbels, and more.
The proceeds from the sale of the book in the midst of the war were used to purchase clothing and bedding, boots, and food for victims of Nazi German air raids.
24 p, 18 cm. Very good condition.
