The Land That Is Desolate - A tour of Palestine - a book of photographs. London 1912 - First edition

The Land That Is Desolate An Account Of A Tour In Palestine-  by Sir Frederick Treves - A Journey to Eretz Israel book accompanied by 43 photographs from special angles taken by the author in Eretz Israel, and a folded map of the Eretz Israel [39x28 cm]. London, 1912 - First edition.

The author visited Israel as part of the great wave of tourists who came to Eretz Israel at the beginning of the 20th century. The book contains detailed descriptions of many cities in Eretz Israel - Jaffa, Haifa, Tiberias, the Dead Sea region, and in the center of them the city of Jerusalem. The book contains, among other things, a rare photograph of the train from Jerusalem to Jaffa. In Jerusalem, the author toured the Al-Aqsa Mosque and descended to the lowest underground burrows in the region. The author also describes the wide variety of the inhabitants of Eretz Israel into their various denominations and attire. It describes the severe poverty of the residents alongside the renewal of the country with new construction and fresh immigrants. One of the first publications that brought high-quality photographs from Palestine.

VII 287 p. [43 plates of photographs] + a folded map of Eretz Israel. Gilded page trimming. Slight stains on some pages, otherwise good condition.
