Civil War M1860 Pattern Staff & Field US Sword
This Peterson #121 sword is the standard pattern carried in the Civil War and later. Brass hilt with eagle pommel and guard. Folding side guard with the pivot ball and scabbard throat is missing. The double etched floral motif blade looks to have a name in panel but is very hard to read. The fittings are fairly tight but have some play and they have some gold wash left but most is down to the brass. Wire wrapped ray skin grip and wire wrap are in good condition. Overall 38.25" with 27.75" blade. Has Samuel Hoppe & Co marker's mark with beehive logo. Blade is dark and discolored. At some point the metal scabbard has been painted over with old semi-gloss paint. The scabbard drag end cap is missing screw but is on tight.
