SHIMON BAR-KOKHBA, 132 – 135 CE
Irregular bronze, 27.2-23.3 mm. Year two. Obverse: Vine leaf. Paleo-Hebrew inscription: “(Year) two to the Freedom of Isra(el)”. Reverse: Palm tree. Paleo-Hebrew inscription: “Sh(imon)”. Over stamped on a coin of Hadrian from Gaza, dated: 192 (131-132 CE). Hadrian’s head is well visible. Very Fine. Mildenberg 1782, p. 118 T (this coin); Meshorer TJC 261a.
