בידספיריט | A BRONZE DOVE OIL LAMP

A BRONZE DOVE OIL LAMP ADORNED WITH THE BUST OF A YOUTH - Byzantine Period, 4th-7th Century CE. 16 cm long. The dove's head with a high neck is looking back and its long wings are forming two nozzles. The bird is designed in a classic Byzantine style with large expressive eyes and ornate by incision feathers. In the center of the lamp is a square suspension pillar, topped by the bust of a youth emerging out of a floret. The head, with rounded face and large eyes, is framed by thick curly hair and is wearing a Phrygian cap decorated at the back with tendril scrolls. On the forehead appears a cross with flaring arms (Cross Fourche). The dove's feet and the lid are missing and with cast holes at dove’s neck and under nozzle, yet in very good condition and rare.
