Lot of 4 postcards: the antisemitic ”Borkum-Lied” (”Bleib du von Juden rein”), the antisemitic caricature ”Der Rosenbaum und sein Ableger”, the Dreyfus Affair ”Affaire Zola-Esterhazy” No. 3 (Cassel 1898) and ”Golus” (Exile) by Samuel Hirszenberg - Lot of 4 postcards from Germany, late 19th and early 20th century, including antisemitic cards and a Dreyfus Affair card: 1. ”Gruss aus Borkum, Borkum-Lied” (Greetings from Borkum, the Borkum Song), to the tune ”Hipp, hipp, hurrah!”: the antisemitic song of the North Sea resort island of Borkum, with all five verses. Verse five: ”Borkum, der Nordsee schönste Zier, bleib du von Juden rein, laß Rosenthal und Lewisohn in Norderney allein!” (Borkum, the North Sea's fairest jewel, stay free of Jews, leave Rosenthal and Lewisohn alone in Norderney), and the refrain: ”Doch wer dir naht mit platten Füßen, mit Nasen krumm und Haaren kraus, der soll nicht deinen Strand genießen, der muß hinaus!” (but whoever approaches you with flat feet, crooked noses and frizzy hair shall not enjoy your beach, out he must go!). Color vignette of the island's ballroom at the top, beside a vignette of guests turned away at the door with the caption ”Bedaure!” (Sorry!). Published by H. Adami, Emden. Unused. 2. ”Der Rosenbaum und sein Ableger.” (Rosenbaum and his offshoot), antisemitic caricature: a fat, bald Jew with a large nose, in a suit and bow tie, smilingly approaching a maid holding a baby beside a pram. A pun on the family name Rosenbaum (rose tree) and the word Ableger (cutting, figuratively offspring). Multilingual back ”Carte postale, Postkarte, Cartolina postale... Weltpostverein”. Unused. 3. ”Affaire Zola-Esterhazy. Die verschleierte Dame! No 3.” (The Veiled Lady), from a postcard series on the Dreyfus Affair: a woman in a black veil stepping into a carriage, caption ”Nach Hause” (Home). The ”veiled lady” is the mysterious figure who, Esterhazy claimed, handed him a secret document. Artist signed, published by Vereinigte Papierwaaren-Fabriken S. Krotoschin, Görlitz. Sent from Cassel to Walldorf (Baden), Reichspost 5 Pf stamp, Cassel 20.6.98 postmark and Walldorf (Baden) 21.6.98 arrival postmark, handwritten German message on the front. 4. ”S. HIRSZENBERG: GOLUS.” (Exile), painting by Samuel Hirszenberg: a column of Jewish exiles marching through the snow, led by a stooped old man. From ”Künstler-Karten, I. Serie: Hirszenberg”, J.V.B.
