Great Britain - a brass ”model coin” token of the reign of Queen Victoria, undated - dated to c. 1840. Obverse: young head of Queen Victoria facing left, surrounded by the legend VICTORIA QUEEN OF GREAT BRITAIN. Reverse: the crowned Prince of Wales's feathers within a circular frame, surrounded by the legend THE PRINCE OF WALES MODEL HALF SOVEREIGN. Data: brass, weight 2.2 g, diameter 19.5 mm, thickness 0.5 mm, medal alignment. ”Model coins” of this kind were produced in mid-19th century Britain as gaming counters and as souvenirs sold to the public; they were never legal tender. The type was issued in honour of the birth of Albert Edward, Prince of Wales (later Edward VII), hence the Prince of Wales's feathers on the reverse. Reference: Numista N#56768, rarity index 53.
