1914 & 1915 CHIHUAHUA 5 & 10 Pesos Mexico Revolutionary Banknotes
These banknotes are from El Estado de Chihuahua. They are Mexico 5 and (2) 10 Pesos notes from the year 1914 and 1915. These notes are circulated. The $5 Peso shows Francisco I. Madero (1873–1913) who was a wealthy landowner and the initial victor of the Mexican Revolution, having overthrown Porfirio Díaz who had ruled Mexico for over 30 years. After winning elections in 1911, he politically isolated himself and was usurped and murdered by one of his generals Victoriano Huerta. Abraham González (1864–1913) was a wealthy landowner and early supporter of Francisco I. Madero and a mentor to Francisco "Pancho" Villa. When Madero was triumphant in 1911, he was elected governor of Chihuahua. After Victoriano Huerta overthrew the Madero government in 1913, he was arrested and murdered. The 10 Pesos features a portrait of the revolutionary hero, Miguel Hidalgo, on the front and a depiction of the Mexican coat of arms on the back. Used circulated condition.
