exotic wood low carved and fully black lacquered with gold decoration “Plant windings with flowers”
gold decorated flat borders “Foliage”, interior of the cover low carved with gold decoration “Double-headed eagle between plant windings”, black lacquered interior, interior of the drawer with dividers for an inkwell and pounce pot, iron mounts

front cover is missing, the cover has been altered and mounted inside out, wear on the lacquer and fault on the gilding on the cover
inscription on the drawer's back indicating that it belonged to D. Duarte de Meneses (1537-1588), viceroy of India (1584-1588)
