The First Haggadah with Copper Engravings and a Map of the Holy Land. Haggadah L'Pesach, Amsterdam 1695

Haggadah shel Pesach with a number of commentaries and an interesting combination of Sephardic and Ashkenazaic customs and nuscha'os, as well as both Yiddish and Ladino. 

This haggadah was illustrated by the artist Abraham ben Jacob the Convert (originally a Christian preacher from the Rheinland, he arrived in Amsterdam and converted) and it is the first haggadah illustrated with this technique of copper engraving, and among the first Hebrew books illustrated with this type of printing. "Whereas in the past, the shapes were engraved on wood, which was not especially attractive... [this type] has a great advantage and is much more handsome." It is most likely also the first haggadah with a map of Eretz Yisrael. This edition served as a prototype for many haggados printed after it.

Handsome antique binding, worn and slightly detached, sans binding. A number of pages are loose. Stains and a few tears and holes. Tapings, mainly in the margins and a few on the text; some are transparent while others have damage and missing text. Condition: Fair.

ההגדה הראשונה עם תחריטי-נחושת ועם מפת ארץ הקודש. הגדה לפסח, אמשטרדם, תנ"ה 1695

סדר הגדה של פסח, עם מספר פירושים, ושילוב מעניין בין מנהגי ונוסחאות אשכנזים וספרדים וכן יידיש ולאדינו.

הגדה זו, צוירה ע"י האמן אברהם בן יעקב הגר (אמן זה היה מטיף נוצרי מחבל הריינוס שהגיע לאמשטרדם והתגייר), והיא ההגדה הראשונה שצוירה בטכניקה זו ע"י תחריטי נחושת, ומהספרים העבריים הראשונים שצוירו בצורה הזו של ההדפסה, "באשר מלפנים היו הצורות חקוקים בעץ, שהנוי לא בשופי... כיתרון האור מן החושך בתכלית היופי". וכן היא ככל הנראה ההגדה הראשונה עם מפת א"י. מהדורה זו היוותה כעין אב-טיפוס להרבה הגדות שנדפסו לאחריה.

בין הסצנות: איור אברהם אבינו ושרה אמנו עם המלאכים. איור בת פרעה עם משה רבנו, איור מכת הצפרדעים, איור מתן תורה ועוד ועוד.

כריכה עתיקה נאה מעט בלויה ומעט מנותקת וללא השדרה. מספר דפים מנותקים. כתמים ומעט קרעים וחורים. הדבקות בעיקר בשוליים ומעט על הטקסט כשחלקם שקופות וחלקם עם פגיעות וחסר. מצב בינוני.
