Antique wooden case of a German Biedermeier-style grandfather clock, 19th century. A distinctive feature of the naturalistic Biedermeier style. In contrast to the ornate grandeur of the French Empire style that preceded it, Biedermeier items focus on functionality, straight lines and elegant modesty for the bourgeoisie. Decorated on the front of the clock with a glass door revealing the pendulum and a door to the clock face (glass missing) decorated in its center.
