Eight aquatint prints, hand-colored, after paintings by Luigi Mayer. From Views in Egypt, Palestine and Other Parts of the Ottoman Empire, [London, 1801-1804].
Eight prints depicting sites in the Land of Israel: Rachel's Tomb, Absalom's Tomb, Jeremiah's Tomb, Nahal Kidron Bridge, Church of the Sepulcher, View of Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives, Shiloh Pool and Beit Hesada Pool.
The Italian-German painter Luigi (Ludwig) Meyer (1755-1803), worked in the service of the British ambassador to the Ottoman Empire, Robert Ainslie. In the years 1776-1794 he toured throughout the Ottoman Empire, in the service of his employer, and became known for the paintings of landscapes and sites he painted in the Balkan Peninsula, Asia Minor, Syria, the Land of Israel and North Africa.
Pages: 34.5X26 cm approximately. All four prints are framed together in a 98X82 cm frame. Good condition. several spots. Not tested outside the frame.
