Jules Pascin - 1885–1930, was born Julius Mordecai Pincas in Bulgaria to a Sephardic Jewish father and a Serbian-Italian mother, became the celebrated ”Prince of Montparnasse” and a definitive figure of the School of Paris (École de Paris). A true bohemian and citizen of the world, he studied across Europe, contributed sharp satirical drawings to German magazines, and lived in the United States during World War I, where he gained citizenship. Returning to Paris, he became famous for his expressive, fluid draftsmanship and masterfully delicate, opalescent paintings, most notably his sensitive yet raw portraits of women and models. Despite his immense artistic and commercial success, Pascin struggled with severe depression and alcoholism, tragically ending his own life in his Paris studio in 1930 on the eve of a major solo exhibition, prompting the entire Parisian art world to close its galleries in mourning on the day of his funeral. Good Condition. Rare!
