Jewish United Synagogues Act - 1870, Important British Law

Official notice of the British act of 1870 authorizing the establishment of the Jewish United Synagogues. 18, [1], pp. 28 pp.

On July 14, 1870, the British Parliament passed an historic ruling uniting all of the Ashkenazi synagogues in London under the banner of “Jewish United Synagogues.” Here is the official publication, with the British emblem. Very rare.

It was the Chief Rabbi of the British Empire, Rabbi Nathan Adler who proposed the union of the five major Ashkenazi synagogues of London in 1866, bringing together the United Synagogues, a union of the three City of London synagogues — the Great Synagogue, the New Synagogue, and the Hambro Synagogue — and their branch synagogues at Great Portland Street and Bayswater.

Its direct work has always been confined to the London metropolis, but it has exercised, indirectly, considerable influence over the Jews of the British Empire and British Commonwealth. It is governed by an elected council representing the constituent congregations. In religious and ritual matters it is under the jurisdiction of the Chief Rabbi. The president of the United Synagogue in 1910 was Lord Rothschild.

In very good condition. With uncut margins.
