Jānis Brekte
(August 1920-1985) - Latvian watercolor painter.
He worked mainly in watercolor, less often in oil. During his life, he created several thousand watercolors, so he is considered one of the most prolific watercolors of his time. The pictures of the Old Town of Riga in different natural moods and seasons are especially appreciated.
At the beginning of his artistic career, he focused on the industrial landscape, painted mainly port views, later focused on the natural landscape, painted forests, mountains, waters, as well as still lifes and flowers. The artist's works are distinguished by an individual, refined handwriting with a characteristic open and free movement, bright color accents and a desire to raise a specific motive to the degree of generalization.
