Antique Japanese Sumida Gawa pottery vases.
The surface of the vases is covered with three-dimensional figures built in flowing glazed ceramics. The scenes depict fables from the Japanese folklore: a fisherman in a boat and a servant-imp on a high perch holding a fragrant soup pot above the hungry landlord on a lower perch. The intricacy of the figures is amazing and the individual features of the faces can be seen in detail. The signature marks of the Ban-ni artists's group are displayed on the white tile on the back side of the vases. Late 19th century. Height 1 - 21 cm, Height 2 - 9 cm.
