The goddess Artemis was one of the most revered gods in ancient Greece and even earlier.
Indeed, there are early sages that the name and goddess originated even before Greece was founded.
According to Homer, she is "Artemis Agrotra Potania Theron" - Artemis of the Wild Country and Animal Mistress.
She was sometimes described as the daughter of Zeus-Veletto and Apollo's twin sister.
Such duties were to take care of hunting, wildlife, childbirth, as well as being the protector of young girls. Sometimes described as an arrow-bearded hunter.
The deer and cypress were sacred to her.
