ANTIQUE ENGLISH PAINTING BY GEORGE M HATHAWAY
George M. Hathaway, English, 1852 to 1903, an oil on board painting Breakwater Farm depicting a landscape with farmhouses. Signed with initials lower left. Housed in a gilt wood frame. George Hathaway is known for Coastal views, seascapes, lighthouses, and marine paintings. George Hathaway, a native New Englander and marine painter, was apparently self taught. He is remembered for his intimate views of the northeast coastline. He also spent a great deal of time in Portland, Maine, painting the well known Portland Head Lighthouse and other marine locales along the Maine coast. One of a kind artwork.
