ANTIQUE AMERICAN OIL PAINTING BY FRANK MATHEWSON
Frank Convers Mathewson, American, 1862 to 1941, an oil on canvas painting Cherries with Basket. Signed, F.C. Mathewson, lower right. Hosed in a richly ornate gilt wood and gesso frame and bearing a Vose Galleries paper label on the back side. Circa the early 20th century. Provenance: Vose Galleries, Boston, Massachusetts; Christies New York, Rockefeller Center, American Paintings, Drawings and Sculpture, 03.07.2008, lot 28. Frank Convers Mathewson, 1862 to 1941, was a prolific Rhode Island painter who specialized in watercolors and oils. He is known for his landscapes, florals and marine paintings. He studied at the Academie Julian in Paris with Jean Paul Laurens, and at the National School of Decorative Arts, also in Paris. One of a kind artwork.
