ANTIQUE JAPANESE MEIJI SATSUMA POTTERY POWDER BOX
An antique Japanese Satsuma pottery lidded trinket box. Late Meiji era, before 1912. Footed round piece, red outer surface. The lid is hand-painted with a depiction of Buddhist monks, or Arhat, with a white dragon. Garnished with gilding. Hieroglyohically marked on the bottom. Satsuma ware is a type of Japanese pottery which originated in Satsuma Province, since the 19th century it was mainly produced for Western export and therefore elaborately decorated.
