JAPANESE TAISHO SHIMAZU SATSUMA POTTERY TEA POT
An antique Japanese Satsuma pottery teapot. Taisho era, 1912 to 1926. Round piece with a gilt handle, spout and lid finial. The item is decorated with a depiction of Japanese women in traditional clothing against the architectural landscape background. Gilt accents. Fine detail work. Hallmark Sekizan with Shimazu family crest is on the bottom. Satsuma ware is a type of Japanese pottery which originated in Satsuma Province, since the 19th century it was mainly produced for Western export and therefore elaborately decorated. Shimazu clan was the main producer of Satsuma ware. Collectible Oriental Asian Decor, Tableware And Tea Service, Japanese Pottery.
