LARGE JAPANESE HAGOROMO SATSUMA PORCELAIN VASE
A large antique Japanese late Meiji era Satsuma porcelain vase made in the manner of Yabu Meizan. The vase is adorned with a fluted flower petal rim, a flared cylindrical neck circumvented with raised gold medallions woven in traditional Japanese motifs, girdled with elaborately gold trims over a crackled cream white ground. The vase features four hand painted feudal figures in opulent kimonos. The image depicts one of the most-performed Noh plays in Japanese theatre, Hagoromo, The Celestial Feather Mantle. The vase is adorned with decorative ring handles with bows on the sides. Signed with red ink Hieroglyphs, on the bottom. Satsuma ware is a type of Japanese pottery which originated in Satsuma Province, since the 19th century it was mainly produced for Western export. Circa: late 19th century to early 20th century.
